On a subdivided corner block, Batten House stacks two bedrooms and a studio over an open ground floor, wrapped in a screen of oiled hardwood battens. Inside, a spiral stair in ply and steel is the house's centrepiece, and the upstairs balcony catches the evening sun the backyard never got.
