Behind an untouched heritage frontage, this extension adds a gabled living pavilion in recycled red brick with hit-and-miss coursing, a plywood-lined kitchen and a concealed stair. The new work reads as a garden building rather than an addition, and every brick was salvaged from the demolished lean-to it replaced.

Brickfield House

The brief was a house that turns its back on the street and opens completely to a protected pool courtyard. We demolished the original dwelling and rebuilt across the full width of the block, with a charcoal rendered exterior, a floating steel stair and living spaces that slide open to the water. Fixed price, one contract, fourteen months from slab to handover.
